GW - Festus the Leechlord

Picked this one up on a whim at GW Glasgow. Mainly because the chap in there said that there was a painting competition, the requirements were to pick one of two minis (or both), get them painted then drop them into the store in time for the competition. I actually won the competition, but no prizes... ahh well, not sure what I expected anyway. It is quite a good mini, being finecast it needed quite a lot of work to it before I could begin, mainly in terms of filling in holes and some bending back into shape. You normally get very good quality with resin, but not with finecast. It is packed full of detail, so much so that I decided to concentrate on one small area to completion at a time, otherwise I would still be painting it now. It even comes with a Heresy torso from one of their ghoul packs. A slight flipping of the bird at GW rules in general. I fear their compliments of "you could win a golden demon" were to sell me a ticket to the show....

I'll probably chuck this on ebay at some point. Unless any of you fancy it? Drop me a line if you do.

More to come in terms of Old School Classic stuff and some conversions. Once I get my act together and start photographing it.

Midlam Miniatures Undead

My latest attemp to re-vive this blog 8)

Painted these up a short while ago for Midlam Miniatures, 28mm to top of head and a breeze to paint up
Usual undead fleshtone of Dheneb Stone and washes for a touch of life.

They can be found here http://www.midlamminiatures.co.uk/, and a bargain at £10 for 7 minis at the moment.

Fantasy Zoat

This one took me back a way, I've no idea where the one I originally had about 20 years ago went to. Really enjoyed painting it up, wonder if I'll be saying that after the next 13 of them 8). Only place to ge tthem now is ebay and they go for a small fortune, saying that, you can spend on average £20 on on of these or one of those new citadel shitecast mini's. No brainer really

New White Knight Dwarves

These are great Marauder Proxies, ideal for bulking up that old OOP army with something that fits. They paint up quickly and easily with little in the way of extra detail that bogs the painting down. These are after all Rank and Filers. The bases need completing. I'll be getting a few more units and trying out different schemes. Very reasonable prioce, fast delivery and the range will be expanding, see the White Knight blog link on the left for more info.

Red Box Games Svjanna the Sinister

One I painted up a while back now. Fantastic mini, there is a lot of detail packed into this range and well worth splashing out for. I went for my normal deathly pallour as I think this works well as a Vampire/Dark Elf type.

Really easy to paint up too but I still need to add some foliage to the base.

I will be getting a few more from this range eventually.

A new company has just been set up selling some cracking mini's, I've painted up some of their Dwarves and some mini's sculpted by Paul Muller. I've added a link to the store on the right of the blog

Olleys Armies SF Ogres

These are cracking mini's from Olleys Armies, I really like Bob Olleys style as it is reminiscent of the golden age of Rogue Trader etc... Quite quick to paint up using natural sand and pale brown colours. They certainly blow GW's Ogryns out of the water by miles. Spend £9.50 on an Olleys Armies Ogre or £13.80 on mis-shapen lump of metal from GW. It is an wasy choice to make.

Now if only I could get my grubby hands on the original Ogryns from the 80's....

4A Zombies

Zombies, from 4A Miniatures. These are great to paint up, nice big chunky mini's that you can slap paint on, add a few washes, a few highlights and you are done. The detail is minimal enough to paint up quickly but are a few steps up the quality ladder than the normal filler mini's for zombie hoardes. Well worth picking up.

Lilith Hesperax

This is from Games Workshop, I went in to pick up some paint and bought this on a whim. A very good sculpt, probably the best I've seen out of there recent ranges (well from early 1990's)

Painted up like the stock image from GW to sell later down the line when I have finished off the plastic squad I also got at the same time.

Hasslefree Pilot

Picked this up while purchasing the "Goatboy", thought i might as well buy more than the one mini to make postage more palatable.

Lovely sculpt, and quick and easy to paint up, based on a Fenris Sulaco base. The Dog type creature comes with the mini but the oil can is from a 1/35 tamiya set.

Oh the Horror

Picked these up off Ebay, sculpted by Kev Adams and now out of production, they seem to rarely crop up.

Used them as practice to blend different colours together

Fenris Giant

Painted this huge chap up. Took quite a while as there is a lot of texture in the skin, but that makes it a better finished product IMO. Very reasonably priced as well.

It is cast in metal and comes in 6 pieces that are fairly easy to assemble. Pinning is advisable as the parts are quite heavy. It also comes with a 60mm resin base.

Fenris have a small online webstore as well as their ebay account. Link can be found on the left

FOUR A Minis Gremlin

This is a "Gremlin" from Four A Miniatures (link on the left). It is a fantastic little sculpt from Paul Muller, the whole range is shaping up nicely to have some very characterful mini's in it, not just your run of the mill types but some weird and wonderful as well.
Painted in GW Foundation Paints

Fenris Skips

These skips are made from resin and come from Fenris Games, a seller on ebay with a website/shop to come. Simple, well formed, no work needed apart from the usual light sanding down. Went for a really banged up look as I've been filling skips myself lately and are pretty much rust buckets. The mini in there for scale is a Hasslefree adventurer.

TAG - SWAT with caps

These mini's are from The Assault Group (link to the left). There is a large range in various poses/equipment. Don't be fooled by the photo's in the store, which have put me off in the past, these are great.

Golgo Island White Tiger

Painted this one up some time ago, reminiscent of Bolo Yeung...
Sculpted by the ever talented Kev White for "Golgo Island", a fantastic mini to be honest and a joy to paint up. I think I got it done from start to finish in about 2 hours. Base has been finished since, but didn't want the flocks etc to obscure the mini for ERM's shop photo.

Long Long time No Update

Mainly due to massive amounts of commission work but I had to show this little fella. Sculpted by Paul Muller and due to be sold by Four A Miniatures. I am really liking the range I have seen so far.
